The textile installation references rechargeable lithium batteries, which power technologies like AI-driven systems, smartphones, and electric vehicles. Inspired by the mining facilities in the Atacama Desert (Chile, Bolivia, Argentina)—one of the world’s key lithium extraction sites—the work evokes the shifting colors of the basins where the mineral is mined, transitioning from blue to yellow, reflecting the increasing purity of the lithium. The large mattress in the installation functions as a “battery recharging station,” inviting visitors to pause, take space, and breathe. A reading room within the installation features a collection of texts compiled in a book—written by scholars, researchers, and journalists, as well as articles from magazines and studies—that explore the dynamics between habitat, exploitation, and all living organisms in the Atacama Desert. The installation offers a moment of rest, where visitors can release built-up tension, shed the weight of daily life, and reconnect with their own energy. The act of resting here becomes not just a physical break, but an opportunity to realign, let go, and recharge—much like the mineral itself: purifying, resetting, and revitalizing.
